Free EPA Refrigerant Leak Rate Calculator
Calculate your annualized refrigerant leak rate using the official EPA Section 608 formula.
How the EPA Leak Rate Formula Works
The EPA requires HVAC/R technicians to calculate the annualized leak rate for all refrigerant-containing equipment with a charge of 15 lbs or more (effective January 1, 2026 under the AIM Act). The formula is:
Annualized Rate = (Lbs Added ÷ Full Charge) × (365 ÷ Days) × 100%
This calculator uses the exact EPA Method 1 (Annualizing) formula from Section 608 regulations. Simply enter your refrigerant addition amount, the system's full charge capacity, and the number of days since the last service to get your compliance status instantly.
EPA Leak Rate Thresholds
| Equipment Type | Threshold | Repair Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Comfort Cooling | 10% | 30 days |
| Commercial Refrigeration | 20% | 30 days |
| Industrial Process | 30% | 30 days |
